Bruce Jones began his Bluegrass journey very early in his life. His desire to be like his father Everett, a musician himself, triggered Bruce to pick up the mandolin and begin playing at the age of 5. Just 6 short years later, he began playing banjo. His abilities on the banjo have earned Bruce several awards across the Mountain State, but most notably the “Vandalia Banjo Champion” in 2000. Although he is a multi-instrumentalist, currently Bruce is spending much of his time playing a resophonic guitar, also called a dobro. His aspirations to play the dobro began in 2001 when his mother-in-law gave him a copy of Dolly Parton’s “Grass is Blue” CD. Jerry Douglas played the dobro on this recording and the sounds that Jones heard left an impression in his mind that he couldn’t forget. Within a very short period of time, Bruce purchased a dobro and began sculpting the “licks” that you hear him generate today.

Throughout his musical career, Bruce has been affiliated with the Bluegrass Travelers, Break Mountain, and Whittaker Station all of which are Bluegrass bands out of West Virginia. He has taken part in several recordings with the “West Virginia Bluegrass Band”, “Break Mountain”, “Whittaker Station”, and “Falling Run”. He has performed at numerous Bluegrass festivals all over the map. You may recall hearing Bruce perform, but most likely remember him from the jam session that lasted the night through.

Jones was born and raised in Calhoun County, West Virginia, but now resides in Preston County with his family.
